——- Mansa District Commissioner, Miriam Kauseni, has called for concerted efforts if the fight against stigma against people infected with the HIV/AIDS virus in the district is to be won.
Ms Kauseni says stigma has the potential to suffocate the efforts being put up in the fight against HIV/AIDS hence the need by all stakeholders to it.
ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this last evening when she led hundreds of Mansa residents at the candle light service at the Catholic Cathedral in Mansa district.
Ms Kauseni said it is worrying that despite the HIV/AIDS virus being there for a long period of time there are still people with the virus who are stigmatized.
She said government is aware of the need to fight the HIV/AIDS and hence the policy of mainstreaming the HIV/AIDS in every contract awarded.
She added that government has also allowed other plays in the fight against HIV/AIDS so as to broaden the base for the fight in the country.
Zambia today joins the rest of the world in commemorating the World Aids Day under the theme: Zambia at 50 towards zero stigma.
The candle light service is an event held to signify that despite the HIV/AIDS pandemic there is still hope that its fight will be won.
