——-Former Mangango Constituency MMD Member of Parliament, Taundi Chiseke, has appealed to the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) to chase away  stray elephants that are destroying cassava and maize fields in Kapili ward in Mufaya’s chiefdom in Kaoma district of Western province.

Mr Chiseke said the six stray elephants are causing havoc and people in the locality are now living in fear of their lives.

He complained that if the elephants are not controlled in the quickest possible time, human lives would be lost as residents are reportedly chasing the elephants by using home-made tools as they cannot wait seeing the wild animals destroying their fields.

Mr Chiseke said the stray elephants usually invade the area every year during the rainy season destroying crops leaving farmers with nothing to harvest.

He urged ZAWA officers to be alert as the area is the only safe route for stray elephants especially from Kafue National Park.

And ZAWA prosecutions officer, based in Kaoma district, Evance Mushimbalume, said officers from Chunga Mangament Unit will be deployed to the area to drive away the elephants before any human life is lost.
