INSPECTOR General of Police Stella Libongani has urged all political parties participating in the presidential election to observe the provisions of the Electoral Code of Conduct during the campaign period.
And Ms Libongani has advised Patriotic Front (PF) members attending the general conference to conduct themselves peacefully in order to avoid any actions that may cause confusion.
Ms Libongani, at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, advised political parties to avail diaries of their intended rallies to the police in order for the service to plan in advance and avoid clashes.
“The police will exercise discretion when it comes to the period of notice for campaign meetings in order to allow all political parties to have equal opportunities in conducting their campaigns.
“In order to avoid cases of violence, members of different political parties should avoid straying in other political parties’ camps or campaign venues,” she said.
Ms Libongani urged delegates to the PF general conference to cooperate with the police officers who will be conducting patrols to avoid confrontation.
“We shall mount checkpoints along the Great North Road in order to keep vigil on those who may have intentions to enter into the conference venue with offensive weapons,” she said.
