UNDER-20 coach Hector Chilombo is targeting gold at the 2014 Africa Union Sports Commission (AUSC) Region 5 Games starting next Thursday in Zimbabwe.
In an interview after a training session at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka yesterday, Chilombo said the junior Chipolopolo will work hard to reclaim the title they lost in 2012.
Zambia were eliminated in the first round of the 2012 COSAFA Youth Championship in Lesotho.
Chilombo said his team will prepare adequately for the games.
The Napsa Stars mentor has only retained three players – goalkeeper Mangani Banda, Patrick Ngoma and Boyd Mkandawire from the team that played in the qualifiers for the 2015 Senegal Africa Youth Championship.
“We only have three players from the team that played the qualifiers because the age limit for this tournament is 1997. We will have no problems working with the players as most of them have worked with us before and know our philosophy.
“Our target is to go and win the top prize after missing out in 2012 when we hosted the games. The tournament will be tough but we will work hard to win in Zimbabwe,” Chilombo said.
Zambia has been drawn in Group B with reigning champions South Africa, Namibia and Lesotho while Seychelles have withdrawn from the tournament due to financial constraints.
Group A comprise hosts Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, Angola and Malawi.
