250 farmers benefit from food pack

through the Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Health
has allocated farming inputs to Luangwa District under the Food
Security Pack to benefit 250 vulnerable but viable farmers for the 2014/2015 farming season.

Namilong disclosed during a Food Security Pack Committee meeting held
yesterday.
Mr Namilonga said the Department of Community Development has
received 250 X 10Kgs bags of early maturing maize seed, 150 X 10Kgs
bags of cowpeas seed and 100 X 10Kgs bags of groundnuts seed which
will be distributed to 250 vulnerable but viable farmers throughout
the district under the Food Security Pack Programme.
Mr. Namilonga added that apart from the seed, the district has also
been allocated with 500 X 50Kg bags of D-compound and 500 x 50Kg bags
of urea fertilizer under the same programme.
Mr. Namilonga thanked Government through the Ministry of Community
Development Mother and Child Health for the timely delivery of the
farming inputs which he said will be distributed to the beneficiaries
soon.
And Luangwa District Commissioner Eunie Mumba thanked government for
the gesture as this will enable more than 500 farmers plant on
time.
Mr. Mumba said that the farming inputs have come at a right time when
the majority of the farmers have already finished preparing their fields
adding that within this week his office would flag off the distribution
of the farming inputs which were received under the Farmer Input
Support Programme.
He urged the beneficiaries to fully utilize the farming inputs
received under the Food Security Pack and the Farmer Input Support
Programme to increase household food security and also at the
level.
