The National Council for Construction (NCC) has commenced legal action against companies that forged NCC registration certificates.

In a statement released to ZANIS today, NCC Public Relations Officer Chama Mwansa said her organization has since suspended the registration certificates of the companies involved in order to pave way for investigations.

Ms Mwansa further disclosed that a Mr Levi Simuchimba has been arrested in connection with the forged certificates and is awaiting trial.

She said Simuchimba had been acting as an agent on behalf of a number of contractors in the submission and collection of applications and certificates.

Ms Chama warned members of the public especially contractors to avoid using agents to submit applications.

She urged spending agencies and the general public to contact NCC to verify the validity of certificates of contractors in order to avoid being penalized for engaging contractors without valid certificates.

Ms Chama said as a regulatory agency, NCC remains committed to improving the quality of infrastructure in support of national development and will not hesitate to revoke certificates of contractors found wanting.
