Senior Chief Mukumbi of the Kaonde speaking people of Solwezi district has expressed fear that four villages in his chiefdom risk being cut off from the rest of the area following the collapse of the Mumbezhi bridge.
The traditional leader says transporting farming inputs to Kalengelenge, Mulubwa, Kansonde and Kiyombo has become a problem as the Mumbezhi bridge which connects the four villages to the main road across the Mumbezhi river has remained in a deplorable state for a long time.
This came to light when Northwestern province permanent secretary Amos Malupenga visited the area.
In response, Mr. Malupenga assured the traditional leader that the matter will be treated with the urgency it deserved to forestall disasters and avoid alienating the affected villages.
The permanent secretary has since instructed his deputy Alfred Chingi and Solwezi district commissioner Crispin Likando to constitute a team to work on the bridge immediately.
