Government has asked Zimbabwean born boxer Charles Manyuchi to consider getting a Zambian citizenship.
Youth and Sports minister Chishimba Kambwili says government is ready to offer Manyuchi a national citizenship if he wishes.
Kambwili says Manyuchi who is a Zimbabwean national plying his boxing trade under Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) in Zambia has made not only his native country proud but Zambia as well through his boxing skills.
The Minister also said government is ready to offer Manyuchi an honorary citizenship as it did to former national soccer team coach Herve Renard.
ZANIS sports reports that the minister said this in an interview at Government Complex in Lusaka last evening shortly after watching Manyuchi and Catherine Phiri defend their boxing titles.
Manyuchi’s defend his WBC International welterweight title fight against Colombian Delvis Casseres whom he stopped via a third round TKO.
Catherine Phiri too retained her WBC female silver bantamweight belt in a lopsided fight against Kukiwe Nonina of South Africa.
Phiri beat Nonina via a second round TKO after the South African failed to come out for the third round.
Meanwhile, the Sports Minister has hailed upcoming young boxer Alfred Muwowo for putting up a good spirited fight against Zimbabwean Anyway Katunga.
Kambwili said Muwowo is a gifted boy and has a lot of potential to raise the Zambian flag high both locally and internationally.
17 years Muwowo beat Katunga in an anonymous points win after a five rounds fight.
