Three senior members of the PF have formerly filed in their nomination papers to contest the presidency of the party, hours before tomorrow’s deadline.

Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata and Kasama Member of Parliament Geoffrey Mwamba have submitted their application to Acting President Dr Guy Scott.

Matero MP Miles Sampa has also submitted his application before PF Deputy Secretary General Bridget Atanga.

Mr. Sampa has also paid the 20 thousand kwacha non refundable nomination fee to contest the party presidency.

Mr Sampa who arrived at the secretary with his supporters says he is ready to contest for party presidency.

Mr Sampa says he looks forward to the convention being peacful and pledged to support the will of the people.

He has further asked the deputy secretary general to ensure that partcipants in the fourth coming convention respect one another.

And recieving the nomination fee and nomination papers from Mr Sampa, Mrs Atanga said the party has already recieved a number of applications from other aspiring candidates who she has however not to disclose until after tomorrow’s day.

She says the party will now wait for the central committee to provide guidance on the mode of adoption of a candidate, whether through the convention through the general conference or the central committee.

Meanwhile Kabwata MP Given Lubinda and former Diplomat Captain Selemani Banda have just announced their intentions to stand as Pf President, but are yet to formerly submit their applications.

After filing in his nomination papers to Acting President Guy Scott today, Mr Sata told Journalists that the general conference is the best way to elect the PF candidate.

He says this is because the late President did not anoint anyone including himself.

Mr Sata is opposed to using the PF Central Committee as a platform for electing its next leader beacsue it is not very representative of the people’s voice.

He has pledged to accept and support whoever will be elected as leader of the PF at general Conference, to which he has donated 40-thousand kwacha towards the conference.

Mr Sata says lack of resources should not be used as an excuse NOT to hold a general conference.

And Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba also says the general conference is the only ideal forum that should be used to elect the new PF leader.

Mr Mwamba says he will not support any member of the Party suggesting other methods of adopting the PF presidential candidate other than the general conference.

He was speaking to journalist after submitting his nomination papers to PF acting President Guy Scott.

Mr Mwamba says the PF is a democratic party and should allow competition.

Meanwhile PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu says he is still consulting whether to contest the Party Presidency or not.

Mr. Lungu says it is important he consults as he makes a major decision, and is comfortable that time is still on his side.

He was speaking to Journalists in Lusaka on Tuesday after the Cabinet Sub committee meeting at Cabinet Office.
