The United Party for National Development (UPND) has described the loss of 27 people who died on Saturday in a fatal road accident on the Mbala- Nakonde road in Northern province as a great loss to the nation.
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema said it is horrific and sad to lose many lives in a manner that could probably have been prevented.
In a statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr Hichilema said the loss of the 27 people is tragic to the nation.
He blamed the Zambia Police officers who allowed an over-loaded small truck carrying close to 100 passengers to pass their checkpoints without being stopped.
The opposition leader has since demanded for thorough investigations into the matter.
Mr Hichilema urged the country to pray for all the families that lost their loved ones in the accident.
