The Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) in Kafue district has offered free connection of water to Soloboni and Zambia compounds in the area.
LWSC Kafue branch manager David Ngenda said the offer will increase access to safe drinking water among households in the two communities.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Ngenda said this during the handover of a water project by Kafue Child Development Agency in partnership with Childfund Zambia to Kafue district council.
He explained that the offer of free water connection runs up to December 2014 and a minimal charge will be added through prepaid meters that will be installed .
Speaking earlier, Kafue Child Development Agency chairperson, Tracy Kasempa said her organisation attaches great importance to the development of children in the district.
Ms. Kasempa said the water project will help to reduce the risk of contracting water borne diseases and vulnerability among children in the two highly populated areas .
She has further pledged her organisation’s commitment to working with government in uplifting the living standards of communities in the district.
She disclosed that the project worth more than K 74,000 was undertaken in partnership with the water utility company, LWSC which provided the technical aspect.
Meanwhile, the Shabusale ward councillor, Gibson Sinkala commended both Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company Kafue branch for the offer to connect water without a charge and Kafue Child development Agency for implementing the project in his ward.
Mr. Sinkala has since called on the residents to safeguard the facility for them to continue accessing clean drinking water.
