Students At The University Of Zambia UNZA Great East Road Campus have fought running battles with police as they continue with their demands to have the former Commonwealth Youth Center turned into student hostels.
The students are also demanding to be paid their outstanding meal allowances.
University of Zambia Students Union-UNZASU President Shepered Kinga says the students have been calm for the past two weeks in respect of the late President Michael Sata’s funeral but that they will now go all out until all pressing issues are addressed.
On October 7, 2014, Students at UNZA stormed the former Commonwealth Youth Center situated within the Campus where they evicted Ministry of Sport workers who have been using the offices since the closure of the center.
The student populace also announced the takeover of the offices with Mr Kinga saying the union’s decision to take over the offices was based on an agreement signed about 40 years ago which gives powers to UNZA to take over the infrastructure.
