N/West PF has no preferred presidential candidate
Solwezi, November 13, 2014, ZANIS–The Patriotic Front (PF) in the North western province says it has no preferred party candidate in the forthcoming presidential by election.
But the party in the province however says that it will support a candidate that will be elected at the party general conference.
North western Provincial PF chairperson Fabian Chiposo told ZANIS in an interview today that the province will wait until a candidate is agreed upon at the general conference.
However , PF Kamijiji ward official Musa Chongo said the party should not go to a general conference to elect a presidential candidate because of the cost involved in holding the meeting.
Mr Chongo suggested that the party should allow the Secretary General Edgar Lungu to be the presidential candidate as he has acted as president before on three occasions when the late President Michael Sata appointed him to do so.
Acting Republican President Guy Scott yesterday said that the PF party will elect a presidential candidate for the forthcoming presidential by election at the party general conference.
The presidential by election scheduled for January 2015 has been necessitated by the passing on of President Michael Sata on 28 October this year in London .
President Sata was buried on Tuesday, November 11 at the Presidential burial site at Embassy Park in Lusaka after a 14-day period of national mourning while a presidential by election should be held within 90 days of the death of the incumbent.
