Patriotic Front Secretary General Edgar Lungu has assured the nation and the international community that the PF will ensure stability, peace and tranquillity during the period of mourning and beyond.
Mr. Lungu, who is also Defence and Justice Minister, says the PF will continue to safeguard the friendly environment and a peaceful transition of power within the party in the run up to the Presidential election.
In a statement released to ZNBC news in Lusaka, Mr Lungu says the party will rise above any possible differences in opinion within its rank and file.
He notes that Zambia has proved to be a very stable country during transitional periods over its fifty years of statehood.
Mr Lungu has cited the transition periods from the One party to multi party rule in 1991 and the passing on of former President LEVY MWANAWASA in 2008 and the untimely death of President MICHAEL SATA.
He said the accession of Dr Guy Scott as Acting President is a further example of Zambia’s tradition of constitutional process.
And Mr. Lungu says the selection of the PF presidential candidate will be done in a free and transparent process allowing everyone a chance to be a contender.
He says the party delegates will have an opportunity to openly elect their own leader.
