POLICE in Kitwe yesterday fought running battles with Copperbelt University (CBU) students and arrested four for alleged riotous behaviour.
The students staged a protest, blocking Jambo Drive with stones and burnt tyres demanding that Government pay them their meal allowances.
Police in riot gear were quickly deployed to control the situation.
Copperbelt deputy commissioner of police Mukuka Chewe said yesterday that police arrested four students.
Copperbelt University Students Union president Gerald Chiluba said the students staged a class boycott because Government has not paid them their meal allowances.
Mr Chiluba said students cannot go to class hungry and appealed to Government to quickly pay them their meal allowances.
