Jubilee celebrations timely for reflection – HH

 

Lusaka, October, 25, ZANIS–The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says the Jubilee Anniversary is an important national event that transcends political affiliation.

 

The opposition party’s leader  Hakainde Hichilema says  the  jubilee of independence is an opportunity for every citizens to reflect of national development.

 

Mr. Hichilema has for this reason paid tribute to the gallant freedom fighters whom he said  had sacrificed their lives to ensure Zambia’s independence

.

He said Zambians owe their political freedom to the late Godwin Mbikusita Lewanika, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Kapasa Makasa, Nalumino Mundia, Lawrence Katilungu, Humphrey Mulemba,  Mainza Chona, and many other gallant sons and daughters of mother Zambia.

 

ZANIS reports that the opposition leader said this in a statement released in Lusaka, today.

 

 

He particulary paid special to Republican Presidents namely Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, late Dr Frederick Chiluba, late President Levy  Mwanawasa, President Rupiah Banda and now current President Michael Sata.

 

 

He further said that each of these in their own way have contributed to building the foundation upon which Zambia has stood in the past fifty 50 years.

 

 

Meanwhile,Mr. Hichilema said the UPND commemorated and not celebrated the golden jubilee because of the patriotic front government allegedly not working according to their campaign promises.

 

He said he has gone country wide and seen the resilience of the Zambians struggle to remove themselves from the jaws of poverty.

 

 

Mr Hichilema acknowledged that Zambians have got political freedoms and independence but said that 50 years down the line people are still suffering economically and battling to get economic independence and freedoms.

 

 

And Mr Hichilema reiterated that Zambia needs a constitution that will protect the rights of the people and ensure that the country is governed in a transparent and accountable manner.
