—Kaputa District in Northern Province has declared itself ready for the Golden Jubilee celebrations this Friday.

Kaputa District Commissioner, Chrispin Kachusha, says the district has prepared adequately for the celebrations to mark 50 years of the country’s independence,
peace and unity.

Mr Kachusha said the district organizing committee, which has been given the mandate to organise the function, has devised a number of programmes
which are in line with the 50 years of Independence.

The District Commissioner, who was speaking to ZANIS in an interview today, said the committee is putting everything in place to ensure that the celebrations are successful.

He said the committee has also drawn programmes such as the humanism week which involves cleaning of the district hospital, the police station and
the market.

Mr Kachusha said there is need for people to inculcate the culture of humanism by cleaning public places such as the police station and the hospital among others.

He commended residents for their involvement in the programmes and called on them to continue with the cooperation which also shows the
peace and unity that Zambians embrace.

The District Commissioner added that apart from government workers, the business community and
ordinary people have also shown commitment to celebrate the country’s Golden Jubilee.

Meanwhile, the Kaputa District Independence Organising Committee is set to honour some freedom fighters in the district for their roles in
liberating Zambia from colonialism.

According to a programme obtained by ZANIS today, the committee will honour the country’s heroes with various gifts which will be issued
out on Friday during the Independence Day celebrations.

Zambia will this Friday, October 24, celebrate its 50 years of independence under the theme: Commemorating God’s favour of Zambia’s
50 years of independence for continued peace, unity democracy, patriotism and prosperity.
