Govt values future of youths-DC
Solwezi, October 20, 2014, ZANIS…Solwezi District Commissioner Crispin Likando says government values the future of the youths.
Mr Likando said it was for this reason that the government had embarked on providing quality entrepreneurship skills to the youths for self employment and sustainability.
Mr. Likando stated that successive governments have continued to provide effective, affordable and sustainable skills training to young people while they were still in college.
He said the capacity building programmes are done by the government through technical education, vocation training through TEVETA and other skills in public institutions.
The District Commissioner said this during the sixth convocation graduation ceremony of students at Solwezi Trades Training Institute (SOTTI) under the theme “21 years of responsive skills training for employment and job creation”.
And college Principal Mwanawuta Shindamba urged the graduates to be pro- active job seekers and ensure they utilized the skills they have acquired to be self sustaining and self employed.
Mr. Shindamba bemoaned the lack of modern equipment in workshops in auto mechanics, electricity, plumbing, metal fabrication and resources for a robust staff development programme.
He cited high staff turn-over due to unattractive salaries and conditions of service coupled with lack of transport and internet connectivity to facilitate easy learning.
He also encouraged parents who had come to witness the graduation of their children to continue investing in education.
