Itezhi Tezhi district independence fundraising committee yesterday held a fundraising braai to help raise funds for the 50th Independence Golden Jubilee.
And Itezhi Tezhi area Member of Parliament Greyford Monde has donated five (5) herds of cattle towards the 50th independence Golden jubilee celebrations in Itezhi Tezhi district.
The fundraising braai which was held at Itezhi Tezhi recreation center is just one of the initiatives to raise the budgeted K22, 000 for this year independence day celebrations.
Itezhi Tezhi District Commissioner George Sichula who graced the occasion said government stands ready to support fundraising initiatives aimed at making the 50th jubilee successful, colourful and memorable.
“It is not always that government will manage to fund such events in every district because it takes enormous resources. The money raised here tonight will be meant for the 2014 independence Golden Jubilee cerebrations,” Mr Sichula said.
Mr. Sichula asked the fundraising committee to put the money raised to good use and to ensure that next Friday’s jubilee cerebrations were unique with plenty to eat and drink for everyone.
“Such events encourage coming together as one family regardless of tribe, political or religious affiliation. This just confirms that we as Zambians have freedom of association and interaction which justifies our peaceful co-existence for 50 years post-independence.
And Mr Sichula has hailed the area MP Greford Monde for the donation towards this year independence activities.
He said the gift that has been well received by the people of Itezhi Tezhi.
Itezhi Tezhi district has lined up tournaments in football, netball and bicycle racing starting this afternoon ahead of Fridays’ golden jubilee cerebrations.
