— Two juveniles of Mwansabombwe district in Luapula Province have escaped from police custody.
The two juveniles of Kafusha village in Chief Mwata Kazembe’s Chiefdom, aged 12 and 13 years, escaped from lawful custody around 24:00hrs in Nchelenge district where they were being held for theft.
The two were caught in Mwansabombwe district and later transferred to Nchelenge district as the theft happened in Nchelenge after the boundary of Mwansabombwe.
ZANIS reports that during interrogations, the two confessed to several crimes involving different shops and narrated that they were being used by elderly people who gave them traditional medicine for them to steal without being seen.
Confirming the matter to ZANIS in Mwansabombwe district, Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, said the two were facing a case of breaking into a building and committing a felony.
Mr Mulenga said the two juveniles managed to get away with property valued at K1, 645.00 during the break in.
He said the duo managed to escape from police custody as they were being kept in the corridor as both the male and female cells had adult suspects.
He said the two climbed the wall and went out through the ceiling.
Mr Mulenga said the incident happened on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 and no arrests have been made yet.
