—-Construction of a multi-million Kwacha shopping mall in Siavonga district in Southern Province is set to kick off in January, next year.
Millennium Ventures and Real Development Director, Nicholas Action, told the District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) members that US $ 18 million will be invested in the project.
Mr Action said about 150 workers will be employed during the start of the project in January, 2015, and will be completed in November within the same year.
He noted that the shopping mall will have a Bank, a filling station, and several commercial shops for renting.
Siavonga District Commissioner (DC), Brave Mweetwa, said the development is cheering as it will help develop the district which is the second tourist destination in Southern Province.
Mr Mweetwa noted that the development will help Siavonga residents who have been flocking to Lusaka for their shopping when they get paid because of the lack of proper shopping area.
And Siavonga District Council Secretary, Phillimon Nyirenda, said the district is eagerly waiting for the commencement of the shopping mall construction which will add value to the infrastructural development of the country.
Mr Nyirenda said the council will be happy to see the completion of the shopping mall to help develop the district.
Meanwhile, the District Commissioner, Brave Mweetwa disclosed to the DDCC that government has
planned to improve the problem of water in the district by empowering Southern Water and Sewerage company SWASCO) to meet its obligation of providing clean drinking water to the people.
He said other areas that government has earmarked for improvement of water include, Kalomo, Kazungula, and Sinazeze in Sinazongwe.
Mr Mweetwa pointed out that people’s cry of poor water supply in some surrounding communities of the district will be answered.
