—The government has commenced the delivery of urea fertilizer for the 2014/2015 farming season to Nchelenge district of Luapula province.
Two trucks carrying the first consignment of 1, 400 X 50 kg bags of the top dressing fertilizer arrived in Nchelenge around 09: 00 hours yesterday morning.
Nchelenge District Cooperative Union (NDCU) chairperson, Pascal Mwape, confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview.
Mr Mwape said the district has a total allocation of 7, 340 X 50 kg bags of urea fertilizer under the Farmer Inputs Support Programme (FISP) for the forthcoming season.
He said his organisation has been assured that the remaining balance of 5, 940 X 50 kg bags of the commodity will be received by the end of this week.
He further said 3, 600 X 10 and 300 X 10 kg bags of maize and rice seed respectively will be delivered next week.
The NDCU chairperson said other 40 X 3 kg bags of sorghum seed has been allotted to the area and will equally be delivered at the same time with other seed.
Mr Mwape has thanked the government for quick delivery of inputs to the district.
