—A 30-year-old Nakonde businesswoman has been found with a case to answer by a magistrate’s court on charges of drug trafficking.
Appearing before magistrate Joshua Sikazwe was Selina Chilembu of Ntindi village in Nakonde district charged with one count of trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to Section 6 Chapter 96 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Particulars of the offence were that on August 19, 2014,Chilembu was enroute to Lusaka aboard a Jarazu bus after which she was caught with suspected mirra by a team of Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officers who conducted a search in the bus after a tip off that there was a woman with drugs on the bus.
When asked by DEC officers where Chilembu was going, she lied that she was going to Isoka for a funeral when in fact not.
Chilembu was found with 20 bundles of mirra all weighing 5.5kilogrames nicely concealed in her traveling bag.
Magistrate Sikazwe has since set October 15, 2014 as date for defence.
Chilembu has opted to give unsworn statement as she opens her defence and has said that she will call no witness.
