The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has thwarted a scam in which 67 illegal immigrants were being smuggled in Zambia using a Tanzanian registered cargo transport truck.
The incident happened last ( Sept 20th) evening around 18:00hrs during the Authority’s field test trial for its new scanner that will be commissioned on Monday tomorrow at its Enforcement center along the Great North Road in Kabwe just before Kapiri Mposhi.
ZRA Corporate Communication Manager Mumbuna Kufekisa has disclosed to Qfm news that it was during this test of scanner that ZRA officers came across the 67 illegal immigrates that were concealed in two containers of the truck.
Mr. Kufekisa says after the illegal immigrants were discovered the Authority further went to alert the Police and Immigration Department at the same time that the driver of the truck fled the scene leaving the keys inside ignition.
He says the 67 illegal immigrants have since been detained in Kabwe.
