Konkola Blades and Nkana have progressed to the 2014 Barclays Cup semi-finals following their victories over Zanaco and Power Dynamos respectively in the last quarter-final double header played at Nkoloma Stadium on Sunday.
They join Zesco United and Napsa Stars who qualified to the semi-finals after they defeated Mufulira Wanderers and Lusaka Dynamos respectively on Saturday.
Konkola Blades left it late as Humphrey Maseneko found the back of the net in the 80th minute having dominated play in the second half. Zanaco could have gone level four minutes before time but Collins Chomba was alert to keep out Moses Phiri’s effort from inside the box.
Konkola Blades midfielder Davis Kalandanya was voted man of the match.
Nkana’s quick fire goals were scored in the 18th and 20th minutes by Ronald Kampamba and Kelvin Mubanga.
Man-of-the-match Kampamba who was under pressure from Zambia U20 defender Alex Mwamba chipped the ball over an on rushing Joshua Titima for Nkana’s opening goal. It was Kampamba who won the free kick that was driven into the top right corner of Titima’s net by Mubanga for the Wusakile based outfit to deliver a psychological edge over their Ndeke based neighbours early in the match.
The draws for the for the semi-finals which are scheduled for October 17 will be conducted in a fortnight.
Zesco United (three times) and Napsa Stars (once) are previous winners of the competition while Nkana and Konkola Blades have never won it.
