Chief Mporokoso of the Bemba Speaking people of Mporokoso District has appealed to government to avert the looming hunger in his chiefdom.
Speaking at his palace when Health Minister Joseph Kasonde paid a courtesy call on him, the Chief said a lot of households in Mporokoso are not food secure because of poor crop yield experienced this year.
Chief Mporokoso explained that his area experienced poor rainfall during the last farming season, resulting in poor harvest of Cassava and Maize.
He said a lot of households risk starving if nothing is done to urgently assist the people in the area.
The traditional ruler also thanked government for its concern and commitment it has exhibited since coming into power to uplift the living standards of Zambians.
Chief Mporokoso said the PF has always responded positively whenever people asked for service delivery from government.
And speaking earlier, Dr Kasonde commended the traditional leader for taking a leading role in ensuring that Mporokoso is developed.
He said government will work closely with chiefs in developmental programmes because of the important leadership role chiefs’ play.
The Health Minister is in Northern Province to inspect infrastructure development in the health sector as well as check on the stock levels of drugs in health facilities.
