The three Church mother bodies have resolved to exert pressure on government to immediately release the final draft constitution.

Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Secretary General Reverend Suzanne Matale, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director Pukuta Mwanza and Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Secretary General Fr Cleophas Lungu disclosed the resolution in a joint communique released to ZANIS in Lusaka.

The Church leaders argued that the impasse over the constitution making process needs to be addressed quickly and demanded for a clear roadmap.

They regretted that the constitution making process has un-necessarily dragged for too long without due consideration of the huge cost incurred in coming up with the draft constitution.

The Church mother bodies said they are aggrieved by the PF government’s continued procrastination, contradictory statements and apparent lack of seriousness and political will in giving the Zambian people a new constitution.

In the communique they unanimously affirmed that the people’s aspirations and expectations on the constitution making process take precedence over all other interests.

Recently Justice Minister Edgar Lungu met the grand coalition to discuss the road map for the new constitution.
