Fans happy with U17 win
Lusaka, September 12, ZANIS—Soccer fans have praised the Zambia Under 17 National Team for beating Uganda in the first leg final round of the Niger 2015 Africa cup qualifier.
Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZSFA) Patron Peter Makembo said the win is a relief to the fans considering the senior team’s 2-1 loss to Cape Verde two days ago.
Makembo told ZANIS Sports in an interview in Lusaka today that the junior Chipolopolo need to be praised for making a step ahead in the last qualifying round.
Coach Chris Kaunda’s charges this afternoon beat Uganda 2 nil in a game played at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka to brighten their chances of making an appearance at next year’s sixteenth edition of the junior African championship.
Makembo has since urged the U17 to remain focused and not be complacent when they travel to Uganda for the return match.
And Makembo has lashed out at some soccer fans calling for the dismissal of Senior Chipolopolo coach Honor Janza.
Makembo said Janza is the right man for the top Chipolopolo job and called on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to consider offering him a full contract.
Meanwhile, Makembo has urged Janza to ensure that he monitors all the local teams in order to have a wider selection of players for the senior team.
