PF, MMD share eats in Vubwi, Kasenegwa

The Patriotic Front has scooped the Vubwi Parliamentary by-election with 3,997 beating the MMDs Eustarkio Kazonga with a difference of 2,906 votes.


Returning Officer, Joshua Daka declared Ms Margret Miti as winner of the Vubwi Parliamentary seat at 03:35 hours this morning at the teachers’
resource centre which was the totalling centre.


Dr Kazonga got 1,091 votes while Alfonso Phiri of UPND polled 761 votes.

FDD candidate Charles Nyoka polled 649 votes and Lucas Phiri of UNIP got the lowest with 391 votes.

The constituency has a total of 18,084 registered voters.

The Vubwi parliamentary seat fell vacant following the nullification
of the seat which was held by Dr Kazonga of the MMD due to electoral malpractice.

Meanwhile, MMDs Victoria Kalima who returned her seat as Kasenengwa constituency Member of Parliament says the people have spoken and that
their say is final.

Ms Kalima who won by a wide margin said she will commit all those that spoke ill about her to God because she is a Christian who does not revenge when people wrong her saying she has forgiven them.

Returning Officer Noel Sichali announced the victory of Ms Kalima who polled 10,936 votes at 06:40 hours this morning.

Ms Kalima beat her closest contender with 7,452 votes while Gideon Zulu of the ruling PF got 3,484 votes.

Others are Timothy Nyirenda of the UPND who polled 439 votes and Khumbiza Daka of UNIP got the 280 the lowest among all the contenders.

266 votes were rejected as invalid.

The constituency has a total number of 41,795 registered voters.

Meanwhile, MMD Provincial Youth Chairperson Chembe Daka caused drama when he sleep walked to a wall where he urinated in full view of electoral officers, observers and political party members and urinated while asleep in the Chipata Municipal council chamber this morning.

The alleged drunken youth chairperson fell asleep as he was waiting for the conclusion of the vote counting in the Kasenengwa Parliamentary by-election.

Daka was taken out of the council chamber by police officers shortly after his embarrassing incident.
