Zambia, Botswana defence forces battle in sports
Livingstone, Sept 5/14 ZANIS————-The Zambian Defence Force is hosting the Zambia Botswana Bilateral games at David Livingstone College of Education in Livingstone under the theme: “Unity and friendship through sports and culture exchange.”
Speaking at the official opening ceremony Director of Sports for Zambian National Service, Matthias Banda, said the main purpose of the games was bonding and promoting friendship beyond borders.
“Sport is now being used as a vehicle for unity, battles are now being brought on the field in a friendly manner to bring the two countries together,” he said.
Col Banda said that the games have come due to the directives from higher authorities in the two countries as they resolved to enhance bilateral relations through sport.
“We believe that the different sporting activities being played here today by the men and women of the defence forces from both countries will enhance and cement our relationship even as we get to interact through sport,” he said.
Col Banda added that the two countries meet at joint operations and training as defence force and sport had been incorporated as another way of fostering the continuity of the friendship that exists between the two countries.
Among the various sport disciplines played was football, netball and volleyball and Zambia is hosting the bilateral games which were previously hosted by Botswana in 2012.
