Govt. committed to Livestock health
Namwala, August 28th, 2014, ZANIS —- Government says it is committed in the fight against livestock diseases by constructing and rehabilitating dip tanks and livestock centres in the country.
Namwala District Commissioner Gevar Nsanzya says government has rehabilitated a good number of dip tanks in the area and other parts of the country.
Mr. Nsanzya said that he is particularly happy that farmers in the area are spearheading a programme called Lima Credit Scheme where inputs in form of loans are being given.
He added that over 70 percent of farmers that got inputs under this facility has a very promising crop and are getting geared for the marketing season.
The District Commissioner said this in Namwala District at the 2014 annual general meeting for the Namwala District Farmers Association held at corner point lodge in the area.
Mr. Nsanzya has since commended the farmers for such an initiative and that it will greatly assist government in trying to eradicate poverty as well as encouraging farmers to always attach a commercial perspective to their farming business.
He disclosed that the union has also simplified the access to extension information updates from the newly launched service called the ZNFU E-extension and that this service has come at the right time as farmers will no longer have to travel long distances just to access information that can be easily obtained on mobile phones.
