Kabompo East (UPND) Member of Parliament Danny Chingimbu has appealed to ZESCO to consider constructing a substation in Manyinga District.
Mr Chingimbu made the request yesterday when the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) handed over the Kawanda Electricity Grid Extension project to ZESCO for operation and maintenance.
The law maker pointed out that the availability of the substation will help to enhance the distribution of electricity in Manyinga.
Mr Chingimbu further called on ZESCO to quickly open up a branch in the district to service old clients that travel long distances to Kabompo to seek electricity services and pay bills.
He said that the commissioning of Kawanda Electricity Grid Extension project will provide ZESCO with an increased customer base that will need to be serviced locally.
Meanwhile, Mr Chingimbu commended government for initiating and implementing development programmes such as the Kawanda Electricity Grid Extension in the area aimed at uplifting the lives of the local people through provision of electricity.
He disclosed that K260, 000 was released from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to facilitate internal wiring and cabling of teachers’ houses and classrooms at 13 facilities that got connected to electricity in the district.
