A state-of –the art multi-million ultra-modern market whose construction started two months ago is taking shape in Itezhi Tezhi district.
The modern market, the first of its kind in Itezhi Tezhi which is being built in Masemu area is funded by the ministry of local government and housing at the total cost of K12 million.
The modern facility which is one of the infrastructure projects that government has invested in the area will house facilities such as banks, supermarkets and other social amenities.
ZANIS reports that Itezhi Tezhi District Commissioner George Sichula confirmed this in an interview at his office, today.
Mr. Sichula said that the facility will be constructed over a period of 10 months.
“Construction is progressing well, so far the speed and quality of works is impressive” Mr. Sichula said.
Mr. Sichula said investment in this kind of facility in rural areas like Itezhi Tezhi was way of showing government’s commitment to delivering equitable development countrywide.
He pointed out that the construction of the two modern facilities are in line with the markets and bus stations Act number 7 of 2007 which requires that the construction of such facilities in an intergraded manner in order to make them commercially viable.
“This kind of market will be first of its kind in this district and it is aimed at promoting business and providing a conducive environment under which our people are trading” Mr. Sichula said.
The district commissioner observed that the construction of the facility has created employment for the local people and that it will change the face of Itezhi Tezhi.
“Itezhi Tezhi has a potential of being a popular tourist destination and the building such facilities in the district will go a long way in promoting tourism and other investments” Mr. Sichula said.
Mr. Sichula has thanked President Sata for the commitment and what he called ‘unprecedented’ attention the head of the state has shown to rural areas like Itezhi Tezhi.
“There are many infrastructural projects in this district and this just shows that government means well for the people of this district”
Mr. Sichula has since appealed to people of Itezhi Tezhi to continue supporting government saying there is still more to come.
