Chipolopolo striker Emmanuel Mayuka says he is hungry and desperate to show manager Ronald Keoman that he deserves a place in the first 11 at the English Premiership side.
The 23-year old leading scorer of the 2012 Nations Cup has been included in the Saints squad travelling to Milwall this evening where he could make his first competitive debut in the Capital One Cup.
“We’re travelling to Millwall tonight for the Capital One Cup game. I hope I’ll be given the chance by my new boss Ronald Koeman. If it’s the case, count on me to make the most of it! I’m hungry and will show that I deserve it,” Mayuka said.
According to Zambian Football KICKOFF , Mayuka has failed to make the squad for Southampton’s first two Premier League fixtures and looks to be down the pecking behind new strikers Shane Long and Grazziano Pelle.
Koeman, who won the Euro 1988 as a player worked with Italian striker Pelle in his native Holland while Shane Long was bought at 12 million pounds from Hull City.
While most Premier League teams always send out weakened sides in the Carling Cup, Koeman insisted he would not change his squad as he needed his players to gel after losing over 6 first team players in the transfer window.
For Mayuka, a goal in this fixture can just kick-start his career at St Mary’s Stadium. –
