Kaoma district farmers association owes FRA K 500, 000

Kaoma , August 19th, 2014, ZANIS —-  Kaoma district Farmers Association (KDFA) in Kaoma district of Western province reportedly owes the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) over K500, 000, it has been learnt.

This was  after 7, 929×50 kilogrammes of maize were unaccounted for by the organization’s information centers (ICs) in the district.

KDFA chairperson elect Joseph Mungandi revealed this today during the Kaoma district Farmers Association Annual general meeting held in Kaoma.

Mr. Mungandi from Mayukwayukwa Information Centre told the meeting that at the time he took over the mantle of the organization, his predecessors were un-cooperative.

He  said that because of their unwillingness,  his executive sought the indulgence of the forensic auditors from the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) which revealed financial irregularities from over ten information centers of KDFA amounting to K 515, 385, 000.

He said FRA in particular during the 2010/11 maize marketing season contracted KDFA adding that KDFA also sub-contracted its information centers in various locations of the district to buy maize on behalf of FRA.

Mr Mungandi who has been elected to run the organization for the second tenure of office said he will ensure that the monies be paid in full to FRA.

He mentioned some of the information centers as Munkuye, Mangango Zambia National service, Mangango, Chitwa, Kamakokwa, Mawilo and Longe. Others Are Kalumwange, Lunyati, and Nkeyema one .

And representing ZNFU, Godwin Mumba, Outreach and Membership manager constituted a five member committee that will seat soon to ensure that the financial irregularities within KDFA is brought to a halt and the monies be paid back to FRA before any other relevant security wings probes that matter further.
