The Malawi Under-20 national football team compromised their prospects of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Youth Champions finals after losing 2-1 to Zambia at the Kamuzu Stadium, Blantyre on Saturday afternoon.
Larry Bwalya put the visitors ahead in the 12th minute when the Junior Chipolopolo counter-attacked down the right wing where the Junior Flames defender Stanley Sanudi had an awful performance.
The Junior Chipolopolo continued to pile on the pressure. Striker Charles Zulu added the second with a simple tap in from the blind side after Saith Sakala had dribbled past Malawi defenders and crossed the ball across the goal mouth on the half hour mark.
Six minutes later, Malawi responded with a consolation goal from Chawanangwa Kawonga’s penalty six minutes later after Ernest Tambe was fouled in the danger zone. Half time found the visitors still dominant.
In the second half, Malawi coach Ernest Mtawali made some substitutions including brining in Precious Msosa and pulling out Matias Nyirenda, but it was too late.
Now, the Junior Flames have a mountain to climb going into the second leg on August 30 2014 in Lusaka.
