Electoral materials arrive in Kabwe ahead of local polls on Tuesday
Kabwe August 17th, 2014, ZANIS —— Election materials for the High Ridge ward local government by- election scheduled for Tuesday 19th august 2014 in Kabwe have arrived ahead the elections.
Kabwe District Electoral Officer Oliver Muuka says the election materials arrived in Kabwe on Thursday in readiness for this Tuesday’s local government polls.
He said the elections materials will be dispatched to the four polling stations tomorrow together with all the election officers.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Muuka said this in an interview in Kabwe district, today.
He said all the election officers will spend the night at their respective polling stations to put logistics together ahead of polls the following day.
Mr. Muuka who is also Kabwe Municipal council Town Clerk, also commended the District Voter education Committee (DVEC) for carrying out voter education in the ward in a commendable manner.
He said DVEC through the two voter education facilitators (VEF), covered the whole ward educating voters the importance of voting and other important topics and hoped this will help reduce apathy which mostly, characterize by-elections.
He further commended political parties taking part in the by-election for the peaceful campaigns they conducted during the period.
Four political parties are vying for the seat which fell vacant in March this year following the death of PF councilor, Tasila Hara.
The ruling PF party is fielding Monica Mwale, MMD is fielding Priscilla Chabala, UPND has Edwin Mwale as its candidate and Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ), has Richard Chama Chewe.
High Ridge ward has 5,573 voters expected to cast their votes at four polling stations at Chowa Police, Rayton, Broadway and High Ridge secondary schools respectively.
