Kalabo magistrates court sentences 33 year old woman for six months simple imprisonment
Kalabo, August 15, 2014, ZANIS —- Kalabo Magistrate Court has sentence a 33-year-old woman to six months simple imprisonment for unlawful possession of a government trophy contrary section 100 and 135 of Zambia Wildlife Authority Act number 12 of 1998 of the laws of Zambia.
Monde Monde of Siboloka village in Kalabo district was convicted by the courts of law upon her own admission of guilt to the charge.
Facts before the court were that Monde on August 4th2014 whilst jointly and acting together with another person still at large was found in possession of a government trophy of a wilder beast meat weighing 35 kilograms without official documentation.
In mitigation, Monde told the court that she had six children including a five months old baby and seven dependants under her custody adding that if she went to jail, the family would suffer.
Monde also told the court that she was an orphan and remorseful of her action
In passing judgment, Magistrate Emmanuel Mukoma said the matter was serious and that he had put into consideration the fact that the accused was remorseful and had a baby adding that if he sentenced her to go to prison, the baby would be affected because of the pathetic conditions in the prisons.
Magistrate Mukoma noted that Monde was the first offender and sentenced her to a K600 fine payable within three working days failure to which she would save a six months simple imprisonment jail term.
