Nakonde man attempts suicide in court
Nakonde, August 14, 2014, ZANIS…Proceedings at Nakonde magistrate court yesterday came to a standstill when a 44 year- old man attempted to commit suicide in the court room .
This happened as Magistrate Joshua Sikazwe was passing judgment in a case where the accused, Kasonde Simwinga was charged for trafficking in cannabis.
ZANIS reports that Simwinga, a peasant farmer of Mukoma village in Chieftainess Waitwika’s area tried to commit suicide by slicing his throat with a razor blade.
Simwinga was in court for judgment for trafficking in 3.2 grams of cannabis contrary to section 6 chapter 96 of the Laws of Zambia.
Passing judgment, Magistrate Sikazwe committed Simwinga to the High Court as he was a second offender after serving his sentence last year for a similar offence.
It was after Magistrate Sikazwe passed judgment that Simwinga while in the accused box started slicing his throat in an attempt to take his own life.
