Chilanga Civic Center funds approved
Chilanga, August 1, 2014, ZANIS…..Government has approved a budget of K3 million for the construction of a Civic Centre in Chilanga district.
Chilanga District Council Assistant Civil Engineer Mike Mumba said disclosed this at the Decentralization Awareness meeting in Chinyanja Ward in Chilanga district.
Mr. Mumba said the site where the Civic Centre is to be constructed had already been identified and the works are scheduled to start as soon as the funds are released.
He said the construction of the 10 medium cost council houses is progressing well as six were now at roofing level and the other four at slab level.
And Mr. Mumba said Chilanga council is currently formulating a five year strategic plan for the district where a number of the developmental projects to be undertaken during the period are stipulated.
He explained that some of the projects to be executed include the drilling of 20 boreholes, improving water reticulation and the construction of 20 more medium cost houses.
Other projects include the upgrading of 60 kilo meters of roads to bituminous standards and the rehabilitation of 150 kilo meters of roads in Chilanga district.
“The council plans to rehabilitate 20 schools, construct bus stops, 6 sports Field, one dip tank and one Abattoir, public toilets, play parks and libraries,” he explained.
Mr. Mumba appealed to the communities to submit developmental projects as the Strategic Plan was not yet conclusive.
Meanwhile, residents of Chinyanja Ward have asked the government to consider constructing a district hospital.
Chinyanja Ward resident Charles Namakobo lamented that people are forced to travel long distances to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka to access medical services adding that others die before reaching the hospital.
