Renard is new Ivory Coast coach
Lusaka, July 31, 2014, ZANIS—Former Zambia National Soccer Team coach Herve Renard has been named as the new coach of Ivory Coast.
Renard, 45 years, who guided Zambia to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations title for the first time, succeeds his compatriot Sabri Lamouchi, who downed tools after suffering a last group stage elimination at the hands of Greece in the 2014 World Cup.
According to Sky Sports and monitored by ZANIS Sports, Renard’s appointment was confirmed today by the Ivorian Football Federation.
The Ivorian Football Federation has tasked to finally secure the continental crown after years of failure despite a talented group of players.
Renard returns to Africa after a brief spell with French club Sochaux, who were relegated from Ligue 1 at the end of last season.
He won the race to take over Ivory Coast from a shortlist of candidates which included former French international Luis Fernandez.
