Police arrest K30,000 youth swindler
Nchelenge, July 31,2014, ZANIS…Police in Nchelenge district have arrested a 39 year old man for swindling over K30,000 from three prospecting students of Saint Pauls Nursing school.
The suspect allegedly pounced on the unsuspecting prospecting students at the Saint Paul’s School of Nursing in Nchelenge between November, 2013 and January, 2014 under the guise of being a Principal Tutor.
Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Malcolm Mulenga confirmed the development in a statement released to ZANIS in Nchelenge this morning.
Mr. Mulenga identified the swindler as Musonda Christopher Bright Mubanga of Kamwangila village in Kambwali chiefdom who obtained K30,105.00 from the three youths.
Mr. Mulenga said Mubanga has been formerly arrested and slapped with three counts of obtaining money by false pretences, one count of impersonation and, one count of forgery and altering documents.
He said the suspect allegedly between November, 2013 and January, 2014 collected the said amount of money from three school seekers at the Catholic run training institution in tuition fees and other costs.
He further said Mubanga is alleged to have issued the duped victims with fake letters of admission and receipts for the July 2014 intake at the mission health training facility.
The Police Chief said the suspect obtained K12,200 from 22 year old Nancy Chileshe of house number 21 Section 3 and K13, 105 from Agness Chiluba aged 20 of plot number 325 Section 10 both of Roan township in Luanshya.
Commissioner Mulenga said the suspect further duped Chipo Hura aged 23 of Kalingalinga Compound in Lusaka of K4, 800 in purportedly similar charges.
He explained that the police in Nchelenge launched a man hunt after the victims separately reported the matter and the culprit was apprehended at Kamwangila village near Saint Paul’s Mission Hospital on Saturday.
Mr. Mulenga also said the suspect is remanded at the Nchelenge Police Station and that he will appear in the magistrate court tomorrow on August 1, 2014.
