Nine bus accident victims still admitted in hospital

Lundazi, July 30, 2014, ZANIS—The nine people who sustained multiple injuries in yesterday’s accident involving a Marcopolo bus and a Volvo truck on the bridge along the Lundazi-Chipata road are still admitted in Lundazi district hospital.

The nine include both the driver of the Lusaka-bound Marcopolo bus 44 year-old George Chileshe of Lusaka and Somalian national Siceet Abde, 32, of Ndola who was driving the Volvo truck that had carried sunflower cake and maize brand.

Eastern province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed to ZANIS in Lundzai today that the seven bus passengers admitted are Rhoda Mtonga, Theresa Ngwenya and Ruth Zulu.

Others are Kaladzia Ndlovu, Jurient Phir, Brenda Chavula and Chebwanjela Chabwila.

Two people died on the spot in the accident after Siceet Abde who was driving the truck failed to keep to his left lane resulting in a head-on collision with the bus whose number of passengers has not yet been ascertained.

Ms Chipalila said that the bodies of the two deceased passengers are still lying in the mortuary awaiting a posterm.

Ms Chipalila could however not disclose the names of two dead persons until their relatives were informed.

She said the Lusaka bound Ronsil Marcopolo bus registration number ALT 4022 collided with the Volvo truck registration number ALE 8026.
