Mitete/Lukulu plan Malaria fight

Mitete, July 28, 2014, ZANIS….Mitete and Lukulu districts have recorded an increase in Malaria incidences in all age groups between 2011 and 2013.

This has been revealed at the district planning launch for both districts held at the Lukulu district council chambers today.

A data expert Richard Zeko said in his presentation at a two-day meeting that in 2011 malaria incidences for all ages in both districts was at 172 cases but increased to 409 in 2013.

He said in 2013 Kakulunda Rural Health Centre recorded 743 while Mataba Health Post recorded 544.

Others are Mitete Rural Health Centre which recorded 297 and Nyaala Health Post with 311 while Sikunduko recorded 270.

Mr. Zeko also said Mitete district is also facing challenges such as low immunization coverage, underweight prevalence and poor availability of trained staff in Health facilities compared to the approved establishment.

He said other challenges are that some catchment areas within the districts are not accessible in the fisrt part of the first and second quarter of the year.

Mr Zeko noted that despite the challenges the districts have recorded an increase in the proportion of antenatal care clients tested for HIV.

Mr. Zeko added that the other achievement was that Kakulunda and Mitete Rural Health Centers recorded highest Antenatal Care coverage and the Formation of Safe motherhood Agent Groups contributed to an increase in some Antenatal Care indicators at some facilities.

The two days workshop is being attended by health personnel from various Health Centres both from Mitete and Lukulu Districts.
