——Suspected UPND cadres in Kaoma have attacked Patriotic Front(PF) campaign manager for Mangango Constituency by- elections Obvious Mwaliteta today and allegedly stole K500 and two remote controls from his vehicle.
Mr. Mwaliteta who is also Central Province Minister and Kafue Member of Parliament(MP) confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Kaoma District , today.
He said that suspected opposition UPND cadres who were led by a named former Kaoma District Commissioner in the MMD era also ripped off two number plates from the rear and front of his Mitsubishi Pajero registration number ABP5657.
He said his team was only rescued by the presence of police officers who included Assistant Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga who were patrolling the area.
Mr. Mwaliteta said they were attacked at Pumulo Pack way Limited where they were buying food adding that the UPND carders also harassed the owner of the restaurant and his workers as they were trying to reason with him.
He stated that his team which included former Mangango Member of Parliament Taundi Chiseke were on their way to Likomani area in Namafulo ward to receive about 427 defectors from MMD and UPND when the fracas happened.
Mr. Mwaliteta has since called for peaceful campaigns during the Mangango by-elections saying the fight exhibited by UPND carders is a clear indication that the party was losing the seat with PF candidate Rodgers Lyambai Lingweshi to emerge victorious on August 19,2014.
The Mangango seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court upheld the nullification of MMD’s Taundi Chiseke who was also Deputy Minister of Commerce in the PF government.
