ZAPD comes to the aid of physically challenged children in Kasama District

Kasama, July 26th, 2014, ZANIS —-  The Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) has donated assorted items to physically challenged children at Mapalo day care center in Kasama.

Northern Province permanent secretary Hlobotha Nkunika says  his office was delighted by the donation .

He said the physically challenged needed special accommodation by all sectors in society.

Among the items donated included standing frames, special chairs and tables, sleeping bags, shoes, clothing and wheel chairs.

ZANIS reports that the provincial minister said this when he received a donation of assorted items to physically challenged children at Mapalo day care center in Kasama district, today.

Mapalo Daycare Center takes care of disabled children with delicate health conditions which include brain infection resulting in complete
paralysis of the body.

Mr. Nkunika added that government will establish Vocational Rehabilitation Centers to provide skills training programs to enable
persons with disabilities to enter the labour market or go into self-employment.

And ZAPD Assistant Rehabilitation Officer Emmah Phiri said she was hopeful that the assistive devices will ease the mobility of children
and benefit them in different ways.

And  project manager Mapalo Chintu commended the government for the donation and appealed for continued support, saying the foundation was facing numerous challenges.
