BUILDING materials worth K15,000 purchased using Constituency Development Funds (CDF) in Kapiri Mposhi in Central Province have disappeared in unexplained circumstances.
Kapiri Mposhi District Commissioner, Beatrice Sikazwe issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the contractor, PSP Investment Limited to find the missing material or face the law.
The building materials were meant for the construction works at Lwonde Basic School in the District but the works had now stalled.
Ms Sikazwe also questioned how a named headmaster signed for the building materials which were not delivered to the school.
“I can confirm that some construction materials meant for the school disappeared in extraordinary circumstances but my office will not rest until the materials are recovered and if not those involved should face the wrath of the law because that is public money”, she said.
She said the materials meant for the construction of additional classrooms at the school were allegedly stolen from a truck enroute to the site after it got stuck in the mud during the rainy season.
Ms Sikazwe said preliminary investigations indicated that after the truck broke down, the supplier gave the headmaster K800 to hire a truck to ferry the materials and also signed for them before being delivered.
She said it was disappointing that local contractors being empowered by Government where failing to deliver.
