A DECOMPOSED body of a 13-year-old girl suspected to be a victim of ritual murderers has been found in Lusaka’s Chainda Meanwood.
Acting police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed yesterday that the body, which had missing genitals, was found around 08:00 hours by a caretaker of Meanwood Housing Complex.
The macabre find was reported to Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Police Station.
Mr Hamoonga identified the dead girl as Tasila Vowasi.
He said police conducted the post-mortem at the scene because the body was decomposed and partially burnt by bushfires.
“During the post-mortem, it was discovered that the body had head injuries and genitals were missing,” Mr Hamoonga said.
The girl’s mother told the police that Tasila went missing on June 15, 2014 around 17:00 hours when she was sent to sell vegetables in Chainda township.
Tasila’s uncle, Lackson Phiri, also went missing on June 15, 2014.
“The report about the child having been missing was only filed yesterday after the body was discovered,” Mr Hamoonga said.
He said police have instituted investigations into the matter and urged members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the culprits to come forward.
