Woman arrested for stealing handbags in Churches
Kalulushi, July 2nd, 2014, ZANIS —- Police in Kalulushi are holding a woman who allegedly has been going round churches to steal hand bags.
Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Joyce Kasosa was not reachable for comment on the matter by broadcast time but police sources in Kitwe who confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview today.
The sources said the suspect whom they named as Bertha Chuulu 27 years of Mindolo Natwange (NM) had been stealing hand bags and money from unsuspecting congregants in Kitwe and Kalulushi.
Police sources said police managed to trace Chuulu after she sold a stolen phone to someone that reported her to the police station.
They said that at one instance Chuulu was found home with her two kids and a nine year old niece whom she had been sending to get people’s hand bag.
They said upon inspection of her house following a tip off by concerned members of the general public , police found different types of hand bags.
The sources said Chuulu admitted stealing the bags , saying that she sold some of them in order to earn a living.
The suspect is in police custody and will appear in court tomorrow.
