Vice President Guy Scott says there is need for all key stakeholders to develop a compassionate and efficient approach to issues of human trafficking and illegal migration.

Dr Scott said a balanced and responsible approach to issues of immigration and human trafficking is cardinal in addressing the vice.

He however called for concerted efforts in identifying the main thrust of illegal migration and human trafficking in order to fully address the matter.

The Vice President noted that the overgrowing trend in people migrating from one place to another is due to prospects of achieving various social needs.

ZANIS reports that Dr Scott said this in Lusaka today when he officially launched the New Tools for the Protection of Vulnerable Migrants in Zambia at the on-going 4thNational Symposium on Human Trafficking in Zambia.

The national symposium is being held under the theme “Zambia @ 50, Protecting Migrants from Trafficking and Exploitation.

And UN Resident Coordinator in Zambia Simon Cammelbeek expressed hope that the new tools will assist in ensuring the basic rights of the most vulnerable people on the move particularly women and children.

Mr Cammelbeek has since praised government for bringing together key partners in addressing the human trafficking problem.

He also reaffirmed the UN’s continued support to Zambia.

Earlier, Head of European Union delegation to Zambia Aad Biesebroek also said the EU will continue to build capacity for the Zambian government with focus on increased protection for children.
